Chinese Consulate General Chinese New Year & 40th Anniversary Reception — CCCA Joins 600 Representatives from Across Sectors

The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto hosted a reception on the evening of January 10th at the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre to celebrate the Spring Festival and the 40th anniversary of its founding. Nearly 600 people attended the event, including representatives from local political, business, cultural, educational, scientific, and media sectors, as well as overseas Chinese, representatives of Chinese-funded institutions, and Chinese students. Everyone gathered to welcome the upcoming Spring Festival of 2025.

Key guests in attendance included: Member of Parliament John McClane, former Senator Victor Oh, former Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba Richard Lee, former Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum, Mayor of Markham Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Oakville Richard Burton, Deputy Mayor of Markham Michael Chan, Toronto City Councillor Michael Wan, York Region (Markham) Councillors Eric Liddell and John Ho, York Region (Vaughan) Councillor Rogley, Richmond Hill Councillor Lilley Liao, Markham Councillor Yee Ching, and Markham Councillor Selena Li, among others.

Many guests attended the event, including Ahmadi, Executive Director and CEO of the Canada China Business Council; Langton, President of York University and Chairman of the Ontario University Council; Zhang Mingda, Founding Chairman of the Greater Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre; Handurap, former President of the University of Waterloo; and Wu Wanjing, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto.

Honorary President of the Canada-China Architectural Association, former Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba, Li Shaolin, Founding President Wen Wenwei, Vice Presidents Huang Wei, Chen Zhong, and Michael Lin, and Director Maggie were among those invited to attend the event.

In his address, Luo Weidong, Consul General of China in Toronto, reviewed China's achievements over the past year in further deepening comprehensive reforms, promoting economic development, scientific and technological innovation, opening up to the outside world, and advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He stated that for 40 years, as a participant and promoter of China-Canada relations, the Consulate General of China in Toronto has always kept its mission in mind and is committed to promoting the deepening of exchanges and cooperation between the consular district and China in various fields.

In their speeches, guests and representatives from various sectors affirmed China's development achievements and opportunities, praised the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto for its positive efforts and contributions in strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields within its consular district and serving the Chinese community, and expressed their hope that exchanges and friendship between the people of the two countries would continue to be strengthened.
